Laser Marking Machine and Laser Engraving Machine

Many people mistakenly confuse the functions of Laser marking machines and Laser engraving machines. In fact, laser marking is mainly to make permanent marks on the surface of materials, and its purpose is to provide identification information. On the other hand, laser engraving machines are used to deeply engrave materials. The following distinguishes the two machines from different aspects.

1.Different working principles

Laser marking machines use laser beams to make permanent marks on the surfaces of various materials. The function of marking is to expose deep substances through the evaporation of surface substances, or to "carve" traces through chemical and physical changes of surface substances caused by light energy, or to burn certain substances through light energy to display the desired etching patterns and texts.

Laser Engraving Machine is a laser device that uses the thermal energy of laser to engrave and cut materials. It is also called laser cutting machine, laser etching machine, etc.

2.Different applicable materials

Laser marking machines usually focus more on the transmission of information, such as marking parameters on electronic components, which requires clear and accurate markings; they are widely used for marking on metals (such as stainless steel, aluminum alloys), some plastics (such as ABS, PVC), glass and other materials.

Laser engraving machines pay more attention to artistic expression and modeling, such as engraving complex figures on jade, which requires high levels of layering and three-dimensionality. It can achieve good engraving effects on soft materials such as wood, leather, and foam materials. However, when engraving some high-hardness metal materials, higher power and special process parameters may be required to ensure the engraving quality, and for some heat-sensitive materials, such as thermosensitive plastics, the material may be deformed due to heat accumulation during the engraving process.

3.Different processing precision

Laser marking machines are known for their high precision and can achieve micron-level marking accuracy. This is because marking is mainly for fine marking on the surface of materials, such as marking serial numbers on tiny chips, which requires clear and slender lines.

The precision requirements of laser engraving machines vary depending on the specific application. When making some large-scale engraving works, such as outdoor stone carvings, the relative precision requirements will be lower, and the focus is on the overall shape and outline. However, when engraving fine crafts, such as micro-carving jewelry, higher precision is also required, but it is different from the precision measurement standard of the marking machine. The precision of the engraving machine also involves depth control and the accuracy of the three-dimensional shape.

4.Different processing speeds

Laser marking machines mainly perform fast marking operations on the surface due to their shallow marking depth. Under appropriate parameters, they can achieve very high marking speeds and can mark a large number of products in a short time.

The speed of laser engraving machines depends on factors such as the depth of engraving, the hardness of the material, and the complexity of the engraving pattern. The deeper the engraving depth, the harder the material, and the more complex the pattern, the slower the engraving speed.
